Comparing the minimum completion times of two longest-first scheduling-heuristics
نویسنده
چکیده
For the problem of non-preemptively scheduling n independent jobs on m identical parallel machines so that the minimum (or earliest) machine completion time is maximized, we compare two well-known longest-first heuristics the LPT(longest processing time) and the RLPT-heuristic (restricted LPT). We prove that the minimum completion time of the LPT-schedule is at least as long as the minimum completion time of the RLPT-schedule. Furthermore, we show that the minimum completion time of the RLPT-heuristic always remains within a factor of 1/m of the optimal minimum completion time. The paper finishes with a conjecture on the probabilistic behavior of the RLPT-heuristic compared to the LPT-heuristic in case of two machines.

A bi-objective model for a scheduling problem of unrelated parallel batch processing machines with fuzzy parameters by two fuzzy multi-objective meta-heuristics
This paper considers a bi-objective model for a scheduling problem of unrelated parallel batch processing machines to minimize the makespan and maximum tardiness, simultaneously. Each job has a specific size and the data corresponding to its ready time, due date and processing time-dependent machine are uncertain and determined by trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. Each machine has a specific capacity,...

This study considers scheduling in Hybrid flow shop environment with unrelated parallel machines for minimizing mean of job's tardiness and mean of job's completion times. This problem does not study in the literature, so far. Flexible flow shop environment is applicable in various industries such as wire and spring manufacturing, electronic industries and production lines. After modeling the p...
متن کاملTruck Scheduling in a Cross-Docking Terminal by Using Novel Robust Heuristics
Nowadays, one of the major goals of the distribution environment is to reduce lead times and inventories. Cross-docking is a logistics technique which removes the storage and picking up the functions of a warehouse. The term cross-docking refers to moving products directly from incoming to outgoing trailers with little or no storage in between. According to the recent related papers, the truck ...

This paper proposes a mixed integer programming model to solve a non-identical parallel machine (NIPM) scheduling with sequence-dependent set-up times and human resiliency engineering. The presented mathematical model is formulated to consider human factors including Learning, Teamwork and Awareness. Moreover, processing time of jobs are assumed to be non-deterministic and dependent to their st...

This paper studies the multi-factory production (MFP) network scheduling problem where a number of different individual factories join together to form a MFP network, in which these factories can operate more economically than operating individually. However, in such network which known as virtual production network with self-interested factories with transportation times, each individual facto...
